Jewels of The Antiquity: A cliff hanger

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

Taormina, Sicily sits at the top of a cliff. It kind of reminded me of the city on the white cliff in Lord of the Rings. The city had wonderful shops along the main street that led to the theatre. The theatre itself has both Greek and Roman architecture. The Greeks laid stone columns that you could see the surrounding view through and the Romans were brick layers who walled up the space between the columns so you couldn’t see Mt. Etna in the background. The Italians are very pragmatic about a volcano in their backyard.  I’m not sure I would be.

While we were there, we tried a cannoli filled with creme.  We don’t have photos of it because it was gone too fast.
